About Kris Green
Certified Thanatologist, Certified Grief Educator, and Grief Coach
Kris Green has lived in Alaska for 45 years and worked professionally as a health educator, trainer, and program support staff in non-profits and government agencies.
She believes that finding the balance between going into the pain and talking about daily life is like shedding the old, to make way for the new. She wants to work with people to transform their life of grief, into powerful growth and meaning making. There is no cure for grief; demystifying and de-stigmatizing the process of death, dying, and grief through education and supportive listening transforms those living with loss.
Her academic background includes a BS in Health Education, MAT in adult education and an MS in counseling. She is self-employed as a certified thanatologist (grief education and peer to peer support), certified grief educator, and a grief coach, as well as a Master Certified Suicide Intervention Trainer.
She has worked at Cook Inlet tribal council, Providence Health and Services, the Municipality of Anchorage, and the State of Alaska. She also brings a wealth of experience as an active community volunteer with the Children’s Hospital at Providence, Providence Hospice, Alaska Police and Fire Chaplain, and the Palliative Care Alaska Network. She serves on a Board Committee with the National Association for Death Education Membership Committee; a member at large for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention-Alaska Chapter; Treasurer for the Palliative Care Alaska Network, and serves a moderator for Death Cafe. She served on the National Association for Maternal Child Health (AMCHP) and is active in her church in Pastoral Care and worship, recently developing Handling the Holiday’s and Blue Christmas events.
As a master trainer, she is skilled with LivingWorks ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and safeTALK, conducting workshops across Alaska. She also teaches QPR. Her experience with suicide is both personal and professional.
Kris has lived experienced suicide and grief and knows this lonely path. Losing her husband in her early 40’s to an accident, she was left to raise 4-teenage sons, who are now successful adults. She has 2 beautiful granddaughters; is newly remarried; and enjoys down time at a cabin on Nancy Lake in Willow.
